எத்தனை படித்தாலும் சலிக்காதது மகாபாரதம்.

சொஸைட்டியில் உள்ள ஒரு நண்பர் வீட்டுக்கு சென்றபோது அவரும் அலமாரிகளில் புத்தகம் ஒளித்து வைத்து புத்தகம் படிப்பதை அறிந்தேன். புத்தக வாசிப்புப் பிரியர்கள் ஆமைகள் போல. சத்தமில்லாமல் தம் உலகில் இருப்பார்கள் (எழுத்தாளர்கள் வேறு வகை). அவரிடம் அத்தனை தமிழ் புத்தகங்கள். பிரபஞ்சன் எழுதிய மகாபாரதம் தூக்கிக்கொண்டு வந்துவிட்டேன். அவர் எங்கள் வீட்டுக்கு வந்து காஃபி அருந்திவிட்டு ராகுல் சாங்கிருத்யாயனின் 'வால்காவிலிருந்து கங்கை வரை' தூக்கிட்டு போயிட்டாரு.

ஏதோவொரு பத்திரிகையில் தொடராக வந்ததை தொகுத்து புத்தகமாக போட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். தொடர் கதையாக இல்லாமல், ஒவ்வொரு கதாபாத்திரத்திற்கு ஒரு பகுதி என படைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கதாப்பாத்திர கதைகளின் மூலம் மகாபாரதம் சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. பெண்களுக்கும், பணம் பதவி அற்றவர்களுக்கும் பாரதம் தந்த அநீதிகளை தவறாமல் சொல்கிறது. ஒவ்வொரு கதாபாத்திரமும் வேறு ஒரு கோணத்தில் விவரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. வாசிக்கவும் சுவையாக உள்ளது.

My verdict: நூலகத்தில் வைத்து பாதுகாக்கவும்.

What he did was silence the man the country needed desperately at its time of need. The only man who could have taught India to live in religious harmony and maybe helped us avoid the decades of religious strife that has followed.
